Winterizing Tips
I know we are in the middle of a desert and can’t remember the last time we saw snow in the area but winterizing is important. It won’t take that long, is very cheap to do and will save you a lot of time and money. It only takes one broken water line to ruin a trip.
The basics of winterizing are to put a little RV antifreeze in each of the sink & shower drains, and to drain all the water out of your water lines.
Every RV is different and every manufacturer may have different directions so please use this advice as a general guide and don’t hold me to being 100% correct.
If you have more specific information, corrections, or model specific directions you would like me to post, please email them to me at [email protected] and I will add them to this page.

- You probably want to start by emptying your water tank
- Run your pump until you hear that it is not pumping water
- Open you hot & cold water valves at your sinks & shower faucets
- Some rvs will have a drain on the outside you can open that will allow the water lines to drain, other units you may have to hook up a small air compressor to the system and blow the water through the lines.
- Pour a small amount, apx half a soda can, of rv antifreeze into each sink, shower and toilet (if it is the style in you home)
- If you have a water dispenser on your fridge check the owners manual. Some are as easy as turning off the water source then pushing the pour button until water doesn’t come out.
- If you have a washing machine, check the owners manual. Some side load units just need the filter on the bottom to be removed. Some top load styles need you to pour rv antifreeze into the machine then run it for a few seconds. To clean it in the spring just add detergent and run a load through it without clothes.
